A laundromat only works if everyone can rely on the machines. You don’t want to put your white bed linen into a drum that just had dog hair, dye or motor oil in it. That’s why Wash&Go has a few clear rules. Here’s what they are and why they exist.
Shoes and trainers: no
With every turn of the drum, shoes slam into the drum and door with full force. That damages the machines, and eyelets, hooks or hard soles can scratch the drum. The shoes suffer too: glue comes loose, soles warp, leather goes stiff. There are special cleaning products and shoe cleaning services for shoes; a washing machine is the wrong place for them.
Dyeing: absolutely not
Fabric dye stays behind in the drum, the seals and the pipes. The next customer then gets it on their laundry, and in the worst case ends up with a pink shirt instead of a white one. That’s why dyeing is a strict no-go in all Wash&Go laundromats.
Oil, petrol and heavily soiled workwear: no
Clothes with oil, grease or petrol residue are a safety risk. The residue doesn’t wash out completely, and it can catch fire in a hot dryer. On top of that, oil and heavy dirt build up inside the machine. Clothing like this belongs at a specialist cleaner for workwear.
Rugs: flexible ones only
Small, flexible rugs that can be folded and are washable according to the label are fine, for example bath mats or thin cotton rugs. Rigid rugs with a stiff backing, rubber or thick pile are not allowed. They become extremely heavy in the drum, throw the machine off balance and can damage it.
Pet blankets: please don’t
Dog and horse blankets are not welcome at Wash&Go. Pet hair and dander stick in the drum and don’t come out completely in one wash. The people washing after you may be allergic to pet hair, and for them the machine would no longer be clean. Please wash pet blankets at home or take them to a specialist cleaner.
What can I bring?
- Your own detergent: yes, of course. The pay station also sells detergent for €0.70 and softener for €0.40 (with the discount card from €0.50 and from €0.30).
- Duvets, pillows, sleeping bags: yes, that’s what the XXL machine with 18 kg is for. More on this: washing duvets.
- Curtains, net curtains, bedspreads: yes, also in the XXL machine.
And what shouldn’t go in the machine for care reasons?
Regardless of the house rules, some fabrics generally don’t cope well with a washing machine: leather, silk, velvet and items whose label only allows hand washing or dry cleaning. A quick look at the care label before washing saves trouble.
